wimple

The wimple was a women’s garment of mediaeval Europe. It consisted of a veil folded so as to cover the head and neck and closely frame the cheeks. After the 15th century the wimple was no longer generally in use, but it continued to be worn as part of a nun’s traditional habit until the present day.
