vair

A fur used for lining and trimming garments in the 13th and 14th centuries. It is generally assumed to have been that of a variety of squirrel with a bluish grey back and white belly, but the species involved has never been accurately identified.

In heraldry, a fur represented by rows of blue and white shields or bells.
