Staffordshire figures

Generally cheap and simple earthenware statuettes, produced in vast quantities in the 19th century by a large number of potteries in Staffordshire. They were cast from moulds and often decorated in bright enamel colours with a little glazing.

The figures represented were often dogs, particularly poodles and spaniels, or eminent Victorians: Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, General Gordon, Garibaldi, General Booth, etc.
