rhyton

A drinking vessel used in many parts of the ancient world. It is in the form of a horn, sometimes with the head of an animal at the tip. The tip is perforated, and the user drank from it by holding the rhyton above his head and catching the stream of liquid in his mouth. As the rhyton could stand only when inverted, it was necessary to drain it before it could be put down.
