pyxis

A covered box-like receptacle of ancient Greek pottery, usually cylindrical and having a finial in the form of a knob, bronze ring, or figure on the cover. Some examples have a group of figures on the cover.

The pyxis was used on the toilet table as a container for jewels or trinkets.
