Attic white-ground lekythos, circa 420-410 BC.

lekythos

A type of small jug of ancient Greek pottery for perfume, oil or ointment.

It is tall and slender, with a small loop handle attached at the shoulder and neck, a narrow neck for slow, controlled pouring, a cup-like mouth, and a flat base.

Older forms have a cyclindrical body, later ones a squat, round body. The body of some examples is in the form of a head, like the rhyton.
