Bernard Leach (1887-1979)

A leading english studio potter. Born in Hong Kong of British parents, he began as a painter and etcher in England before going to Japan in 1909, where he studied pottery techniques. In 1920 he returned to England and founded the Leach pottery at St Ives in Cornwall.
