Jacobite glass

Wine-glasses produced for supporters of the exiled Stuart dynasty. They may be engraved with a portrait of the Old or Young Pretender or, more commonly, with Jacobite symbols such as an oak tree or a rose with two buds. They were made from 1688, when James II was deposed, and in greater quantity after 1745.

Fakes are rife.
