Guild of Handicraft

An organisation founded by Charles Robert Ashbee in 1888, that was an important part of the Arts and Crafts movement. It was a craft co-operative modelled on English medieval guilds, in which skilled craftsmen would produce hand-crafted goods in accordance with the principles of John Ruskin and William Morris.

Originally based in Stepney in the East End of London, the Guild moved in 1902 to Chipping Campden in the Cotswolds. At its peak it employed over one hundred craftsmen.
