Glasgow school

The Glasgow School was a circle of influential modern artists and designers based in Glasgow, Scotland, that flourished from the 1890s to circa 1910 and which made a distinctive contribution to the art nouveau movement, particularly in the fields of architecture, interior design and painting.

Among the most prominent members of the Glasgow School were: the acclaimed architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh; the painter and glass artist Margaret MacDonald (Mackintosh's wife); her sister, Frances MacDonald; and Herbert MacNair. These four in particular defined the Glasgow Style (a syncretistic blend of Celtic and Japanese art), which found favour throughout the modern art world of continental Europe.
