Directoire style

The French decorative arts style of the 1790s, following the Revolution. The style, which took its name from the Directory, the republican government of the day, was characterised by a trend to neoclassical formality and simplicity. Republican motifs such as the fasces and the cap of liberty were frequently used.

Georges Jacob was a noted furniture designer working in the Directoire style.
