Century Guild

The Century Guild of Artists was founded in 1882 by a group of artists and craftsmen, among whom Arthur Heygate Mackmurdo was the leading light. Its aim was to abolish the distinctions between fine and applied arts and “to render all branches of art the sphere no longer of the tradesman but of the artist. It would restore building, decoration, glass-painting and sculpture.”. The guild published a quarterly magazine, The Hobby-Horse, from 1884 to 1892.
