John Baskerville (1706-1775)Renowned as a printer and typographer. He ran a successful japanning business in Birmingham, and invented a new process of japanning. The profits from this enabled him to make costly experiments in type founding and to invent the type fonts that are now named after him. As a printer, he manufactured his own paper and ink.
