Aubusson

A French centre of tapestry-weaving established in the early 16th century and still active today. In the 18th century it was noted for hangings and furniture covers depicting scenes from the fable of La Fontaine and for designs from contemporary prints. Copies were also made of Gobelins and Beauvais tapestries. In the 19th century reproductions of earlier tapestries were produced.
