agate glass

Glass made with a marbling effect to imitate precious stones - not only agate but also onyx, jasper, chalcedony etc. It is made by mingling molten glass of two or more colours.

From the late 15th century onwards agate glass was made in Venice, where it was called calcedonio and in Germany where it was called Schmelzglas.
